Thanks to Penguin.ca I got the opportunity to review the book Dust City by Robert Paul Weston.
With his dad doing time for the double murder of Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother, Henry Whelp tries to keep a low profile in Dust City—a gritty metropolis known for its black-market, mind-altering fairy dust. But when he begins to suspect that his father may have been framed, Henry ventures deep into the City’s underworld. There he comes face to snout with the legendary mobster Skinner and discovers what really happened to his father… as well as the horrifying truth about fairy dust.
The book is written for children ages 12 and up, so I was intrigued to see how well I actually could enjoy reading a book geared toward a younger audience. For me, a good book will draw me in almost immediately and I was glad to see that Dust City did just that. I loved the idea behind a book that would take fairy tales and bring them into a different light. I have always enjoyed the enchanting aspects of the fairytale genre and this book turned it completely upside down in the most fabulous of ways. Finding time to read a good book is rare in my busy life, but once I sat down and started, I couldn’t put it down. Dust City leads you into the disenchantment of everything enchanted, throws in mystery, mixes it up with danger and character appeal and leaves you still reeling from the whole story even after the book has been closed.
If you haven’t already guessed, I am in love with this book and have my fingers crossed that the author decides to bring a similar tale to life in another book. If you are looking for a book to get wrapped up in, then Dust City is the book for you!
